Files - No way to update

Postby Mike » 20.06.2012, 11:34

To change a single word in an uploaded file I have to delete the old file and create a new one.

I loose all comments, and have no version control.

True. Versioning has not been implemented, yet.

But since this is not a bug, but simply a feature that is not implemented, i move this to feature requests.

Thanks Phillip,

Certianly versioning is a feature. But being able to replace the file and retain the comments (versioning aside for now) could at a stretch be called a bug?

Mike,

without getting into a discussion about if this is a bug or not a bug :o :) ... let me tell you this:
* I generally agree with the notion that "updating" files should in some way be possible
* You may have noticed that the filer manager was one of the areas that has been improved with the latest release. I will continue to improve the file manager for our next release.
* Without promising a full blown versioning implementation: i will improve on this for the next release. Needs some more thinking on my part :)

Thanks Philipp,

I wasn't trying to draw you into a bug\feature argument. I've had those before and nobody wins. Let me know if I can do anything to assist you.

Well your suggestions on how to implement this are certainly welcome
I haven't thought at length about how exactly to implement this. :)

So what you are saying is to implement some kind of locking mechanism.
Sounds somewhat complicated. I think i would prefer to implement some kind of versioning where several versions of a file can coexist in one namespace (i.e. filename).
