Collabtive Client Alpha 1

Postby Philipp on 17.01.2009, 00:02

Today we release the first alpha version of the Collabtive Client.
Collabtive Client is a Windows program that allows you to use Collabtive without having to open a browser window.

It also provides a desktop shortcut, as well as several additional features:
* Auto login to Collabtive
* Checks for new tasks in the background and displays system notifications
* No browser chrome
* Minimize to the system tray

You can download the alpha version here: http://collabtive.o-dyn.de/collabclient-alpha1.zip
The archive contains several files:
setup.exe and CollabtiveSetup.msi contain the windows application.
Use setup.exe to install the application to your computer.

Update Collabtive
To fully use the client you need to update your Collabtive setup as well.
To do this put the following files from the archive to your server:
* api.php to /
* /include/class.toXml.php to /include/
* /templates/standard/login.tpl to /templates/standard/

The client is developed in C#, so you'll need the .NET Framework for it to work (included in Windows XP and Vista).
More features will be added in future releases. Please keep in mind that this is alpha software and is not recommended for productive use.

Feedback on this is greatly appreciated.

Amazing - congratulations! ...And, as you stated elswhere in this forum:

You can run .NET applications on mac os X (and linux) using mono (now located at: http://www.mono-project.com)

So happy to have found this software - thank you VERY much!

Will this client retrieve information from the web to the computer? If yes, is the information that is stored on your computer secured. If no, so you always need to be online to edit your information and more.

Nothing is stored on the computer.
You always need to be online.

This client just brings / will bring a more convenient way of accessing your Collabtive server, instead of always having to use a full browser window.

Oke, thank you for your quick answer. And do you think this would be an option for in the future? So it would be also a handy tool to use also offline. ;)

Maybe in the long term.

This is rather complicated to do right.

Is there an updated link to download? The one list here (http://collabtive.o-dyn.de/collabclient-alpha1.zip) is no longer valid.

Thanks.
