Getting involved with development

Postby alabandit » 06.01.2009, 18:08

I might be adopting collabtive into my work flow, in that case i would be interested in getting involved in development. but there seems to be little to encourage developers on the project? what the currant approach to new developers.

This is a great initative; why the lacking response to it? Being an open source project, I'd reckon volunteer assistance and potential new members to add to the core team is central to why you decided to go os in the first place. Have these discussions been pursued in private perhaps? That's okay I guess but there's still the other part of discussion that is 'how to get involved' which leaves a lot to be said, in public.

I believe I already made a mention of easing the road into Collabtive development in my discussion of the about-page.

Not that I'm aware of. I've already moved on and started using unfuddled. It's not free, but great service. Also, sadr, are you from gamedev.net?

While i generally agree, that we could do more to facilitate contributions - i don't see the problem either.
If you want to contribute something - DO IT.

Get the source code, write your stuff, make it work, test it, and then submit it to u s.
SHOW US THE CODE. The chances are high your stuff will be included :)

Same goes for themes and localisations.
2 themes and more than 20 locales have already been contributed.

I would agree, as it is wholly possible to contribute to this project, it is open source after all, but the point here (now) is that there's a lot of things that could be done to make it easier to contribute. We all know it's easier to give a hand when you know;
where help is needed the most,
who else is involved and at-work already,
what quality standards are expected,
and so forth.

But well, I'm talking in surplus here seeing as Philipp has already agreed to put some work into easing contributions.

Contribution will be one of our next focuses.
We will try to make it easier to Contribute.

Maybe you could use a documenter/misc.manager? If so, I would be very interested in the job once I return home May 3rd. Let me know by pm if you're interested.
