I've got the same problem, and I've tried your fix. I can't seem to get it to work on my side, so I'm not sure what's wrong. I'm not dependent on collabtive right now, so I'm under no stress, and can test code until my eyes bleed.

However, why don't you use trim() insteatd of str_replace() ?
